Strengthening your company will give you a foundation and set you on the path to success.

Sometimes a little advice, consulting, coaching or training can go a long way towards achieving your goals. Other times there is a fair amount of work involved to reach your objectives. You may want to hire a consultant to do some of this work directly. The idea is to get additional traction without slowing down your core team.

Not All Small Business Consulting Companies are Created Equally

It’s a good idea to look for somebody who has walked the walk before and built their own successful company. The next critical thing to look for is a proven small business consulting program that has consistently delivered the results you’re after.

A standard question that business people ask consultants is: how much experience do you have in my industry? This is a legitimate question with two sides to the coin. Industry experts with specific knowledge have advantages especially for components like strategy, purchasing, pricing, and hiring.

At the same time, there are specialists who are experts in building strong companies. The entrepreneurs they consult to are in the full spectrum of industries.  Read what our clients are saying about us.

The surprise here is that it’s not an either-or type of situation. If it makes sense to get both. Call us at (604) 319-4254 for a no-charge discovery session and we will travel to you in Greater Vancouver BC.

The Real Key to Profits and Growth

Strong companies do good business while other companies – that aren’t yet strong enough yet – have difficulties with processing their business. In some cases, there seems to be a never-ending struggle with symptoms.

Entrepreneurs who focus on strengthening their companies typically see their profits grow. Profits are the best fuel for growth. Consistently delivering a solid bottom line makes it much easier to build your company the way you want to. Isn’t that what we all want? It’s well worth taking the time to meet with Rock Solid Consultants in Vancouver and discover how they can help you transform your business into a strong profitable company.

  2. Hi John,

Great post! I particularly like your comment, “A standard question that business-people ask consultants is: how much experience do you have in my industry? This is a legitimate question with two sides to the coin. Industry experts with specific knowledge have significant advantages especially for details like pricing and hiring. At the same time there are generalists who are experts in building strong companies.”

It appears that “generalists” in this context are specialists in building strong companies. Great work!
    Cheers,
    Erika

  3. Great blog. Thanks for the reassurance, John. I’m normal as I frequently feel that I’m walking a tightrope. So how does consulting differ from mentoring? Or are they one and the same thing?

    • Typically a mentor is someone who has been down the road you are on before. The role is akin to an adviser who can also make contacts for you. It isn’t a hands on approach.

A mentor may advise you to develop a marketing plan or even to hire a consultant to do it for you if it’s not an area of strength for you. The same goes for financial information systems. This is more likely because the mentor needs information and will want to see high quality reports.

Consultants typically do hands on work on projects similar to the above.
Systemizing you company is another good example.

An experienced consultant can also act as a mentor, but there may be a conflict of interest if they are recommending more work for themselves.

  4. Hi John,
Coaching and consulting are quite complimentary and I enjoyed reading your view of how a great consulting firm is created and run. You listed great pro’s and con’s and I’ll be back to read more in the future.
